BENDS EXPLAINED. I will teach you how to mentally calculate tables and adjust diving for gas mixes and different altitudes without the use of a calculator. Fabric hyperbaric chambers light and portable. Instead of transporting a patient to a facility that has a working chamber, a portable hyperbaric chamber can provide treatment right away. The man in the video was injured on a holiday and no evacuation aircraft were available to transport him to a facility for treatment. Transportation in bad weather or at a bad time is avoided. A favorable outcome is more likely when properly prepaired for.

Oxy Heal markets the SOLACE brand of "MILD" 4 psig hyperbaric chambers manufactured in New York State. Jeff Dolan 646 696-5233 is their representative. This chamber is roughly equivalent to a 10 ft safety stop when you are diving and it is satisfactory for some medical hyperbaric treatments, in my opinion. 10 ft sea water at 0.445 lbs/ft pressure= 4.4 psi.

If you are treating patients in a clinic setting, I can be available to help you get started

The most recent USN Air Decompression Tables are available on the Internet. Use my method to check for the possibility of an illogical decompression requirement. Two methods are better than one. "Bends Explained" - an update after 15 years of " A manual for Scuba Divers" is in press with iUniverse publishing and is available as an e book. My method after Dr. Al Behncke was first published with the papers presented June, 1992 at Duke University 1992 in Basic and Applied High Pressure Biology Edited by Peter B. Bennett and Robert E. Marqis. Mine is on page 451 and the first reference is Behncke, A. R. 1979.

The square-root principle in the calculation of one-state (no-stop) decompression tables.

Undersea Biomedical Research 6: No. 4, 357-365. I have expanded this concept to calculate linear decompression tables which follow very closely the published U.S.N. Air Decompression Tables that I was using at the time I was treating divers mentioned in my book.

The difference as I pointed out in A MANUAL FOR SCUBA DIVERS is miniscule. I have some copies of this book for sale at the list price $10.95 Plus $2.00 shipping and tax 7% in Florida

Dive Score: The depth of the dive X the square root of the minutes of the dive breathing air and surfacing at sea level gives a score. IF the score is less than 500 the dive does not require decompression-provided that the diver does not have residual nitrogen, disease of the lungs, is not dehydrated, and does not exert him/herself after the dive. Depth of the dive in feet is the maximum (not the average or the depth at which you spent the most time) depth of your dive.

The treatments mentioned in Bends Explained were given with a mask (usually a Scott Bibs which is the best value because of its durability and functionality) or a Sea Long Hood. The U.S. Navy Dive Manual and the NOAA manuals illustrate this technique.
